Who we are

Can I Run Game (canirungame.com) is operated by the operator of canirungame.com ("we", "us"). We are the data controller for the personal data described below. You can contact us at [email protected].

What we collect

You can use most of the site without an account. We collect only what is needed for each feature:

  • Hardware scan (optional): when you run the scanner and send the result we receive your processor name and core count, graphics card name, video memory, graphics driver version and date, installed memory size, type and speed, screen resolution and refresh rate, whether the computer is a laptop or desktop, the Windows version, and the free and total space of your largest drive. We do not collect serial numbers, file names, installed programs, Windows usernames or browsing data.
  • Account (optional): your email address, a username, your password (stored only as a salted hash, never in plain text), the time you accepted our terms, your saved games, your privacy choices and your most recent hardware scan.
  • At registration: your IP address and the country derived from it. The country is shown on your profile only if you choose to show it.
  • Messages: if you contact us, the message, your email, optional name, the category and your IP address, so we can reply and prevent abuse.
  • Technical data: your IP address is processed temporarily to protect the service from abuse (rate limiting) and appears in standard server logs.

Why we use it and our legal basis

  • To provide the service you asked for: compatibility verdicts, FPS estimates, upgrade advice, your account and saved games (performance of a contract).
  • To keep the service secure, prevent abuse and fix problems: rate limiting, fraud and spam prevention, and moderation (our legitimate interests).
  • To show your public profile, specs, rig rank or country to other people: only when you switch these options on, which you can do or undo at any time (your consent).
  • To show you in the global ranking: only while you keep public specs turned on (your consent). We also compute aggregate statistics that do not identify you (our legitimate interests).

What is public

Everything is private by default. If you turn on public specs, anyone with your profile link can see your username, processor, graphics card, memory, Windows version and rig score, and you appear by name in the global ranking. If you turn on the country option, your country is shown on your profile and in the ranking. Disk space, drivers, email and IP address are never shown publicly. You appear in the global ranking only while public specs are turned on. If you turn them off, you are removed from the ranking.

Storage in your browser

We do not use advertising or tracking cookies and currently do not run third-party analytics. We store a few small items in your browser (local storage) so the site works: your scanned hardware, your login token, your saved games, your theme choice and whether you confirmed you are over 18 for adult content images. You can clear them in your browser settings at any time.

Who we share data with

We do not sell your personal data. We use these providers to run the service:

  • Steam (Valve): we request public game information. Your personal data is not sent to Steam.
  • A geolocation lookup service (currently ipwho.is) may receive your IP address at registration to determine your country, unless a trusted network header already provides it.
  • Our hosting and network providers, who process data on our behalf to deliver the site.

We may disclose data if the law requires it or to protect our rights and users.

How long we keep it

  • Scan codes: 30 minutes, or until used.
  • Contact messages: until we have dealt with them, and for a limited period afterwards.
  • Account data, your hardware scan, saved games and registration IP: until you delete your account.
  • Rate-limit counters: a few minutes to an hour.
  • Server logs: for a limited period needed for security and troubleshooting.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the EU and UK GDPR) you have the right to access your data, correct it, delete it, receive a copy in a portable format, restrict or object to processing, and withdraw consent at any time. You can download a copy of your data and delete your account yourself on the Account page. For anything else, write to us at [email protected]. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

Security

We use industry-standard measures such as hashed passwords, encrypted connections (HTTPS) and access limits. No system is completely secure, so please use a strong, unique password.

Children

The service is not directed at children under 16 and you must be at least 16 to create an account. Some games listed on the site are marked by Steam as adult content, and their images are hidden until you confirm you are 18 or older.

International transfers

Our providers may process data in countries outside your own. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.

Changes

We may update this policy. The date at the top shows when it last changed. If the changes are significant we will tell you on the site.
